Baking Club Updates...
The S & S Baking Club will be undergoing some major restructuring this summer (2011). As we continue to grow and evolve so must the way we function as a group and as a philanthropic entity. I now envision a smaller Executive Committee meeting a couple of times in the fall and then going into high gear with the help of a larger S & S Associate Member group from Feb-May to plan and pull off the Bake Sale Extravaganza. The goal will always be to have as much FUN as possible, building lifelong friendships while making a meaningful contribution in our own community. Stay tuned for more details!
Baking Club Beginnings...
As you already know from reading the HOME PAGE (you did read the HOME PAGE didn’t you?) the SUGAR & STILETTOS BAKING CLUB was founded on a magical, serendipitous whim and is now morphing into an exciting, sexy, fun movement…OH LA LA!
I handpicked a group of twelve extraordinary women to be the club’s founding members;
Me – what a surprise! – Penny Gundry, Susan Wick, Eleanor Strauss, Cori Davenport, Mindy Strauss – no relation to Eleanor – Marcie Weibgen, Lisa Murphy, Jacklynn Evans, Casey Neidorf, my niece extraordinaire, Aviva Bergman and Wendy Turner.
Our first meeting was on October 14, 2009 at my house and was such a hoot. There were six of us in attendance at that meeting…a pretty good turnout since two of our members live out of town! We strutted our stuff in our sexy stilettos, we ate all the fabulous treats we made, exchanged recipes, drank champagne, talked, laughed, made plans for the future and generally just had an exquisite time.

We have continued meeting every two months and now have five meetings and tons of delicious recipes under our collective belts. Throughout the course of the meetings the S & S logo was designed, trademarked and copyrighted. Sponsors and PR possibilities were discussed (including S & S accessories to eventually sell…like refrigerator magnets, note pads, dish towels, party paper goods, tote bags, aprons, rubber gloves and t-shirts to name just a few!). An S & S basket was donated for the Spring 2010 fundraiser at Crossroads School in Santa Monica. Other ways to serve our community throughout the year are being considered (i.e. smaller localized bake sales, donating baked goods to needy organizations, etc). Future S & S franchises all over the US and abroad (DREAM BIG I say!) Plans for the first BAKE SALE EXTRAVAGANZA for charity. Plus a short reading of the still very much in progress play, “SUGAR & STILETTOS – an obsessive baking odyssey” (working title).

In addition, each meeting is the basis for a chapter in the first (because, of course, there will be more than one!) SUGAR & STILETTOS BAKING CLUB COOKBOOK, which will be filled with our life stories (sweet and savory) as well as all those aforementioned recipes. The last chapter/culmination of the book will be our first BAKE SALE EXTRAVAGANZA slated for Spring 2011. (Check out the BAKE SALE page on the website for the latest details as they arrive!)
At heart, the club is a manifestation of a grown-up girls sorority (at least my vision of one) in the best sense of the word; a place to be one’s pure and best self unconditionally and without reservation, a place to share one’s passions, talents and dreams as well as one’s frustrations, fears and disappointments, a place to grow, give back, nurture and be nurtured…but most importantly…a place to feel sexy, appreciated and have a whole hell of a lot of FUN!
